The first time I went to Chincoteague Island to witness the Pony Penning Week wild pony swim, I met Amanda Geci. She was talking to her friend at the fence line of the corrals--the holding pen the Chincoteague Ponies are kept in the day leading up to the swim. She knew every mare and stallion, and could cite their lineage. I was amazed.
As time marched on and my book Marguerite, Misty and Me was soon to be released, I asked Amanda to be a fact checker. She is, after all, an expert on all things Chincoteague Pony. And I found out she's a passionate Misty of Chincoteague memorabilia collector. I appreciated her input. She caught an error that almost slipped through--I thought Misty II owned by Kendy Allen was a palomino pinto just like the og Misty. Amanda set me straight stating Misty II was a chestnut pinto. (Thanks, Amanda!)
Her largest Misty-related possession is her mare, Misty's Hurricane Izzy--a Misty descendant. Besides her pinto pony, Amanda has amassed a collection of MIsty items that fills an entire room!
I had a chance to interview Amanda and learn about her fun artifacts. You can read the entire interview over on my blog.
Here's a quick overview of what she has found and savors:
1. MIsty of Chincoteague puzzles
2. A Misty of Chincoteague belt buckle
3. More Misty of Chincoteague Breyers than I can count (on all four molds)
4. Misty movie poster
5. Misty the Wonder Pony merchandise
Amanda is one of the creators behind the website I used over and over while researching for my Marguerite Henry biography, MistysHeaven.com. If you're a fan of Marguerite Henry and her books on horses too, you need to check it out. :)
Thanks for reading and I hope you savor the Misty nostalgia.
